'Spider-Mable' saves Oilers' Andrew Ference in heroic wish day
Edmonton Oilers captain Andrew Ference went "missing" Monday, but an inspiring young superhero saved the day.
Spider-Mable, whose real name is Mable Took, is a six-year-old girl who has been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia for the past two years.
Her condition was discovered after her parents noticed she tired very easily. During her treatments, she fell in love with old 1960s Spider-Man comics.
Spider-Mable's adventurous day was put together by the Children's Wish Foundation, which helped fulfil her dream of fighting crime like her hero.
Sergeant Steve Sharpe called upon Spider-Mable to help rescue Ference, who was "kidnapped" Monday morning:
Ference's daughters issued their own plea:
Spider-Mable searched for Ference alongside Spider-Man at the Edmonton Valley Zoo on Monday afternoon:
Ference was eventually located in the clutches of noted supervillain Mysterio:
Spider-Mable rescued the Oilers captain, to the delight of the crowd:
Spider-Mable will drop the puck in the ceremonial faceoff before Tuesday's preseason game between the Oilers and the Arizona Coyotes.
Her special day brings to mind San Francisco's memorable hero, BatKid, who rescued the Giants mascot, Lou Seal, in 2013.
Edmontonians should be able to sleep easy knowing Spider-Mable is patrolling the streets.
