VIDEO: Westbrook discusses triple-double streak on 'Kimmel'
Let Westbrook be Westbrook. Maybe just don't let Westbrook dress Westbrook any longer.
Oklahoma City Thunder star and local L.A. native Russell Westbrook stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Thursday, wearing the most Westbrook outfit imaginable. There's the leather hat, the plastic, high-school-shop-class-goggles-looking glasses, and overalls with only one strap done up, like a redneck Andre the Giant.
Jokes aside, the affable Westbrook has built a reputation on his fashion tastes, even if they may not be reasonable choices for the lay person. The T-Swift-singing point guard not only landed the cover of NBA Live 16 this year but also had his own forays into the fashion world.
Of course, his play has a lot to do with the attention he receives and the opportunities he's opened up for himself. And that's what Kimmel wanted to talk about - specifically, Westbrook's streak of four consecutive triple-doubles this season, which was one shy of Michael Jordan's record streak.
Westbrook admits that he was aware of Jordan's record at the time, while also noting that historically vaunted triple-double machine Magic Johnson was his favorite player.
The Thunder guard finished the season with 11 triple-doubles, the most anyone had recorded in a season since Jason Kidd had 12 in 2006-07. Westbrook averaged a league-high 28.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.6 assists, and 2.1 steals in 67 games, placing fourth in MVP voting and nearly dragging a Kevin Durant-less Thunder squad into the playoffs.
