Russ Westbrook is the cover man for NBA Live 16

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

These are heady times for Russell Westbrook.

Because it's 2015, his name is now attached to a new line of high-end frames, and on Tuesday he was unveiled on the cover of EA Sports' NBA Live 16.

The choice is hardly controversial. Westbrook was a whirling dervish of basketball dominance this past season, staking a legitimate claim to an MVP award while carrying an injury-riddled team that narrowly missed the playoffs. Westbrook scored 40 points or more in 10 games, and registered 11 triple-doubles - including a stretch of four in a row.

In other words, he was like a video game player.

Westbrook takes the cover mantle from Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard, who graced it for NBA Live 15. He also follows closely in the footsteps of Thunder teammate Kevin Durant, who was on the cover of NBA 2K15, but spent the majority of the past season on the sidelines due to injury.

As Polygon notes, EA has announced its star, but not yet a release date for the game.
