Report: Redskins plan to start Kirk Cousins over RG3 in Week 1
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III could be sidelined for longer than initially expected.
The Redskins not only plan to start Kirk Cousins in Saturday's preseason game, but also against the Miami Dolphins in the regular-season opener, according to Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN.
Russini's colleague, Ed Werder, also shared this tidbit of information he received from a source close to general manager Scot McCloughan:
Griffin suffered a concussion in the Redskins' 21-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Aug. 20, but was back participating in 11-on-11 drills just days later. The team announced Friday that after receiving further evaluation from an independent neurologist, it was determined that Griffin will not play Saturday.
Cousins has appeared in 14 games, including nine starts, for Washington in his three seasons with the team, completing 59 percent of his passes for 3,030 yards with 18 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
