Gary Woodland withdrew from the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits ahead of the opening round Thursday due to a neck injury. Carl Pettersson will replace him as an alternate.

Woodland has missed three cuts in his last four majors and has not finished higher than T57 in his last three starts. The 31-year-old has two career PGA Tour wins.

Pettersson, meanwhile, is playing in only his second major in the last two years and has not made a major championship cut since the 2013 Open Championship. The 37-year-old has three career major top 10s including a T3 at the 2012 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island where the Swede held the lead through the opening two rounds.

Pettersson will play alongside Francesco Molinari and Marc Warren.
