Report: Bills claim IK Enemkpali after release from Jets
The Buffalo Bills have claimed linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali just one day after he was released by the New York Jets following a locker room fight with quarterback Geno Smith.
"We all know what happened." Bills head coach Rex Ryan said at a press conference on Wednesday. "Obviously it was a terrible thing that happened. But IK made a mistake."
A 2014 sixth-round pick of the Jets, Enemkpali broke Smith's jaw Tuesday, reportedly following a dispute over money. Smith will miss six-to-10 weeks with the injury.
The move is in keeping with Ryan's mantra of "building a bully." Also, Ryan is familiar with Enemkpali from 2014 when he was the head coach of the Jets.
Ryan said Enemkpali was a "good teammate," and has not spoken with the incoming linebacker as of yet.
It has been widely reported Enemkpali had several red flags coming out of college, including assaulting a police officer. Several teams reportedly took him completely off their draft boards due to anger issues.
In six games last season, the Louisiana Tech product had three tackles.
