Report: Fight involving Geno Smith and teammate was over money

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith's altercation with teammate Ikemefuna Enemkpali was over money, according to Albert Breer of NFL Network.

Rumors have swirled over what caused the altercation, but Breer reports that Smith simply owed Enemkpali money and there was no card game involved in the transaction.

Enemkpali believed Smith owed him $600 from the purchase of a plane ticket to attend his football camp in July, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Smith was unable to attend after a close friend died in a motorcycle accident and told Enemkpali he would reimburse the money. After not receiving it, Enemkpali confronted Smith on Tuesday, leading to the fight.

Teammates and coaches were not divulging any information Tuesday, as the team preferred to keep the details in-house, but Breer confirmed former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason's report that the fight was over money.

"My only goal is to heal quickly," Smith told ESPN's Adam Schefter. "And get back to playing with my teammates so I can be the best QB possible for the NY Jets."
