The Philadelphia Eagles and representatives of quarterback Sam Bradford are discussing a short-term contract extension that would tie Bradford to the club beyond 2015, ESPN's Ed Werder reports.

Bradford, whose six-year, $78-million deal expires after this season, was acquired from the St. Louis Rams in March in exchange for Nick Foles, a 2015 fourth-round pick, and a 2016 second-round pick.

The former No. 1 overall draft choice is coming off back-to-back ACL tears and has played just seven games over the past two seasons.

A short-term extension could be in the best interest of both parties. It would provide security for the player and team, but allow either side to reboot in a year or two if the arrangement goes sour.
