Junior Galette is getting a second chance.

A week after being released by the New Orleans Saints following a series of off-field incidents, the pass rusher has signed a contract with the Washington Redskins.

Despite Galette's troubles, the Redskins felt comfortable enough with him to bring him on, with head coach Jay Gruden citing his contrition as a positive sign.

"Talking to Junior, he's very thankful for the opportunity New Orleans had given him, very remorseful about what happened, just being in the situation he was in," Gruden said Friday, according to Mike Jones of The Washington Post. "And he was really excited about a second chance. ... He said he'd do everything in his power to make sure we wouldn’t regret it."

Galette's deal is reportedly for one year at the veteran minimum of $745,000. The Redskins also hold matching rights for 2016, according to NFL Media's Albert Breer.

The 27-year-old was reliable on the field for the Saints, appearing in every game over the past two seasons while recording a combined 22 sacks. Off the field, however, it was a much different story.

Galette was arrested in January for simple battery involving domestic violence. Although the charge was dismissed in February, he still faces a civil suit related to the incident and possible discipline from the NFL.

A report surfaced Wednesday that Galette was charged with three misdemeanors after a traffic stop on July 7.

If Galette can stay out of trouble, this could prove to be a low-risk, high-reward deal for the Redskins.
