Cowboys VP on Dez Bryant non-catch vs. Packers: 'The call was correct'

Acceptance is the final stage of grief.

Though fans across the nation still swear Dez Bryant caught a crucial fourth-down pass late in the Dallas Cowboys' playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in January, it appears as if key members of the Cowboys are finally ready to move on.

"As it turns out, according to the rule, I think the call was correct," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Tuesday at the grand opening of the Dallas Cowboys Club at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, according to ESPN.

Of course, Jones' carefully selected words suggest he believes, as many do, that the rule as it's written is bad.

NFL director of officiating Dean Blandino says he personally met with the Cowboys (no word on whether the meeting came on a party bus) during the offseason to explain why the play was ruled as it was.

Blandino has since revealed the NFL has had discussions about changing the rule.

Jones stopped short of calling for the deletion of the rule, but said his desire is for the league to continue exploring ways to make seemingly great catches like Bryant's non-catch count.

"Going forward is there a better way that some of these plays that are made by great players like a Dez Bryant or a Calvin Johnson, is there a way to tweak a rule to where you can say, 'Hey those guys really caught those footballs and they should be catches even under the NFL rules?' Well, that’s the job of the Competition Committee and for us to continue to look at ways to get better," he said.
