Jose Mourinho: Chelsea needs a left-back because we'll be selling Filipe Luis
If there were any remaining doubts over Filipe Luis' future at Stamford Bridge, Jose Mourinho effectively ended them Tuesday.
One day after Chelsea reportedly agreed to sell Luis to Atletico Madrid for around £15 million, Mourinho told reporters in Montreal that his club needs a left-back to fill the impending void left by the 29-year-old defender.
At Atleti, Luis will return to the club where he spent four seasons. He won a Europa League title, a La Liga title, and a Copa del Rey crown there, and helped guide the team to the final of the Champions League.
Luis struggled to earn playing time at Chelsea last season, making only 15 Premier League appearances for the club, six of which were as a substitute. His lack of minutes stemmed largely from the efficient performances of fellow left-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
