Didier Drogba fuels speculation with Inter remarks: 'It could become a definite option'

Didier Drogba is controlling the narrative.

Amidst conjecture that free agent ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba could be poised to sign for an MLS club, recent quotes from the Ivorian imply that he's also interested in playing for Inter Milan.

"Inter are a great club and certainly if they were to contact me I would love to listen to what they have to offer, but at the moment my only negotiations are with an MLS club," Drogba told FC Inter 1908, according to ESPN FC.

"As far as Inter are concerned, it could become a definite option if they were to be interested."

Neither Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini nor any other member of the Nerazzurri have commented on the speculation, but the club could be looking at bringing in another striker to support Mauro Icardi following the departure of disappointing Arsenal loaner Lukas Podolski to Galatasaray in the summer.

The 37-year-old Drogba may not have the marauding pace and touch he once had, nor the fitness to sustain 90 minutes of Premier League football, but he's still able to contribute to a top-flight side in a reduced role.

With the signings of Geoffrey Kondogbia from Monaco, Jeison Murillo from Granada, Davide Santon from Newcastle, and the loan of Miranda from Atletico Madrid, Inter is apparently making a conscious effort to ameliorate defensively and improve on last season's disappointing eighth-place finish.

Perhaps Mancini will now turn his attention to strengthening his attacking core. Don't wander too far from that phone, Mr. Drogba.
