Report: Didier Drogba offered MLS contract by Chicago

Ivorian striker and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has been offered a Major League Soccer contract, sources tell ESPNFC.

Several clubs have reportedly expressed an interest in the striker, with Chicago Fire leading the pack with an 18-month contract offer worth approximately $2.5 million annually.

Initial reports said that in addition to interest from MLS sides, an unknown Qatari club has also expressed an intent to sign the 37-year-old forward.

Drogba, who has been out of contract since his deal with Chelsea expired at season's end - his second spell with the English champions - could join ex-Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard overseas in MLS.

The Chicago Fire, who currently sit last in the Eastern Conference, already have their three designated players spots appropriated with Shaun Maloney, David Accam, and Kennedy Igboananike, but because of the league's recent introduction of Targeted Allocation Money, the Fire could use that to pay down the contracts of the latter two and use the resources to sign the Ivorian goal machine.

During his career with Chelsea, Drogba won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one Champions League crown, and was voted the club's greatest ever player in a poll conducted by fans.
