VIDEO: Padres pitcher Tyson Ross hits 1st career home run

San Diego Padres right-hander Tyson Ross doesn't allow home runs, he hits them.

The 28-year-old entered Thursday's start having not allowed a home run in 74 innings and figured it was a good time to get on the board himself.

A lifetime .168 hitter (20-for-119) with two extra-base hits, Ross smacked an opposite field 392-foot home run off St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Tim Cooney for his first career home run.

The long ball marked the first for a Padres pitcher since Ian Kennedy homered on May 8, 2014.

Ross finished his outing after allowing three runs off four hits and five walks, while striking out six in as many innings.
