Report: Chelsea offered chance to sign Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid

Chelsea is reportedly still reaching into the pockets of Atletico Madrid.

According to the Guardian, the reigning Premier League champion holds the opportunity to sign Arda Turan from Atleti in a deal that would end Chelsea's immediate pursuit of Antoine Griezmann. Two firm bids for the 28-year-old midfielder are apparently sitting on Atleti's table, with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United among the interested parties.

One day after the 28-year-old midfielder took to Twitter to let it be known that his agent, Ahmet Bulut, was in touch with three or four clubs, Bulut himself claimed that Atletico Madrid was surprised by Turan's decision to leave the Vicente Calderon and that his client will select his next club by the end of the week.

"We will not make a formal announcement until he signs," Bulut told NTV Spor, according to Marca. "Arda will decide where he wants to play next season in the next four days. Our decision to leave Atletico was a big shock to them, they didn't want Arda to go.

"When we sat down to look at the plan for Arda's career and thought about what he had gained at Atletico over the four years we came to the conclusion that leaving Atletico was the right thing to do."

It was reported in early May that Chelsea was considering a summer move for Griezmann, who scored 22 goals in the 34 La Liga appearances last season.

However, Atleti is allegedly attempting to ward off Chelsea's interest by raising his buyout clause to £100 million, while Jose Mourinho subsequently admitted: "Griezmann is great striker but is not within our objectives to strengthen the squad for next season. We are not interested."
