When the air was finally cleared, Carmelo Anthony was giving Kris dap.

With rumors swirling that the New York Knicks superstar was unhappy with the team's moves on draft night, Anthony reached out to No. 4 overall pick Kristaps Porzingis this week.

"Carmelo reached out to Kris after all of that," Porzingis's brother, Janis, said Monday. "It was beautiful that a player of that profile can do something like that. It's great."

A report surfaced Friday that Anthony had expressed displeasure with the draft-night maneuvering, but if the benefit of the doubt is to be given to Anthony, this may be a bit of a miscommunication of sorts. Anthony reportedly voiced his displeasure to Tim Hardaway Jr., who was traded later in the first round for the No. 19 pick, which would become Jerian Grant.

It's possible Anthony was unhappy about dealing the somewhat-established Hardaway Jr. for another rookie, though he'd be well-served to take a closer look at Hardaway Jr.'s game tape if that's the case. Grant is a solid player and a savvy pick-and-roll operator, and he should help ease the offensive load on Anthony next season by adding an additional ball-handler to the rotation.

Anthony had also taken to Instagram to say there was "no drama" around the draft, calling Porzingis "a steal." Supporting the youngsters is the best move at Anthony's disposal, as even if he's unhappy, professing as much would serve to lower any leverage the Knicks have on the trade market. It seems obvious that the 31-year-old Anthony would want the team to focus on win-now moves, but the Knicks are far enough from title contention that making smart, positive-EV moves that increase their talent base are important, even if the dividends may come a couple of years down the line.

Porzingis, by the way, may not be able to play in Summer League in mid-July due to hip tightness he's currently working through, according to his brother.
