VandeVelde re-signed with the Flyers on Monday, agreeing to a two-year, $1.425 million contract, Frank Seravalli of TSN reports.

Analysis:

The trade of Zac Rinaldo to the Bruins earlier Monday was likely opened up enough cap room for the Flyers to retain VandeVelde, who tallied a career-high nine goals and 15 points in 70 games last season. Though he doesn't have the mean streak of Rinaldo, VandeVelde brings more offense to the club's fourth line, and still managed to pile up 121 hits a season ago. VandeVelde should mesh well with new Flyers coach Dave Hakstol, for whom he played under during his collegiate days at the University of North Dakota.
