Mariners' Cano in lineup Sunday after taking errant throw off head

Robinson Cano is in the lineup Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels a day after a major scare.

The Seattle Mariners second baseman was removed from the game after he was struck on the forehead by an errant throw while in the visitor's dugout in the seventh inning of Saturday's game against the Angels.

Cano exited to the clubhouse with symptoms of dizziness after Angels rookie shortstop Taylor Featherston's throw sailed over first baseman Albert Pujols between innings. The mishap left Cano with a large welt over his temple, and Pujols and Featherston with feelings of remorse.

"I was talking to (Franklin) Gutierrez. Next thing I know I got hit in the head," Cano told reporters, noting that he received calls from both Angels players after the game. "It hurts right on the spot, besides that everything is good."

The Mariners announced during the game that Cano passed concussion tests, and listed him day-to-day with a head contusion. Cano said he expects to play Sunday after experiencing a significant reduction in swelling following the game.

"Lots of ice," he said, when asked how he's treating the injury.

As for the corner seat Cano was occupying in the visitor's dugout: "I will never sit there again," he said.
