Harris on Mavs drafting Indian-born Singh: 'We've historically done well with European players'

There was a lot of buzz about the Dallas Mavericks' selection of 7-foot-2 center Satnam Singh with the 52nd pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, which made Singh the first Indian-born player in league history to be drafted.

While the jury is still out on whether Singh can be a functional NBA player - 37-year-old Dirk Nowitzki joked that the Mavs had done the seemingly impossible and drafted a guy slower than him - the team is happy, for the time being, reaping the publicity.

"There's a billion new Mavs fans out there right now," owner Mark Cuban said.

Before they go any further, though, they may want to give their players a geography lesson, particularly point guard Devin Harris.

Taking for granted that Harris didn't mean this as an intentional colonialist callback to the British Raj, he could stand to be a bit more diligent about doing his homework.
