New Orleans Saints quarterback Ryan Griffin spoke about being struck in the face with a champagne bottle for the first time Wednesday, a day after police records describing the incident were released.

Griffin required 50 stitches after an altercation at a New Orleans lounge on June 7. Police did not accuse Griffin of any wrongdoing, however.

"I just wanted you guys to see my face. Everything looks fine. My plastic surgeon must have gone to Tulane. They did a great job," Griffin told reporters, giving a shoutout to his alma mater.

The 25-year-old is contending with Luke McCown and Garrett Grayson for the Saints' backup quarterback role.

"It was an unfortunate situation that happened. I'm trying to get it handled quickly and easily. As soon as it happened, I notified the Saints and have been telling them anything and everything that's happened so far," Griffin said. "My main focus right now is football, and doing whatever I can to help this team and get better and get ready for training camp. And I just want to thank everyone that's been supportive and has reached out to me. It's been awesome."

Griffin is attempting to put the incident behind him in a valiant battle for a roster spot ahead of the 2015 campaign.
