St. John's AD Chris Monasch to resign after 10 years with alma mater
St. John's athletic director Chris Monasch will resign from his position effective June 30, the school announced Thursday.
Monasch has held his position since March 12, 2005. Under his guidance, the Red Storm made 26 NCAA tournament appearances, won eight Big East tournament titles, and captured seven Big East regular-season titles.
Monasch oversaw the multiphase renovation to Carnesecca Arena, as well as significant upgrades to Belson Stadium, which houses St. John's soccer team.
He is the fifth athletic director in the university's history.
As for Monasch's replacement, Adrian Wojnarowski believes St. John's is looking at another alumnus, Pete D'Alessandro. The current general manager of the NBA's Sacramento Kings, D'Alessandro could be on the outs there and Wojnarowski calls him a "significant candidate" for the St. John's job.
