Blue Jays activate Reyes from DL; option Kawasaki to Triple-A

The Toronto Blue Jays welcomed back one half of their middle infield from the disabled list on Monday.

Shortstop Jose Reyes has been activated from the 15-day DL, with the team optioning infielder Munenori Kawasaki to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Reyes had been sidelined since April 27 with a cracked rib and muscle strain, but completed a successful rehab stint over the weekend without suffering any setbacks.

The 31-year-old is expected to slide back into his usual leadoff spot in the lineup, likely moving defensive specialist Ryan Goins to second base until Devon Travis returns from his own DL stint.

Reyes had been off to an excellent start before being slowed by both injuries, hitting .250/.266/.300 with three doubles and seven RBIs in 16 games.
