Report: Babcock would receive 6-year deal worth $5M annually from Sabres
Ron Chenoy / USA Today
Mike Babcock is about to become a rich man.
The questions that remain are how rich he'll be and who he'll collect his bounty from.
The Detroit Red Wings have made Babcock an offer of $4 million annually, but the Buffalo Sabres have reportedly raised the stakes and have the biggest ante on the table, which includes a long-term commitment.
On @TSN690 , @DarrenDreger says Buffalo will throw "whatever term and dollars is necessary." He's hearing offer is around 6 yrs & $5M per.

If Dreger is hearing correctly, that would make Babcock the highest-paid coach in the NHL by a landslide, surpassing Chicago Blackhawks bench boss Joel Quenneville, who currently earns $2.95 million annually.
