Longoria's MLB-best games streak snapped
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
Evan Longoria's consecutive games streak has come to an end due to flu-like symptoms.
The Tampa Bay Rays third baseman was scratched from Thursday's series opener against the Texas Rangers, ending the longest active streak in the majors at 198 straight games started. Longoria had also played in a league-best 270 contests.
The last game Longoria missed was nearly two years ago on July 1, 2013 when he was sidelined with plantar fasciitis.
Logan Forsythe will replace Longoria at third base with Joey Butler inserted into the lineup to assume designated hitter duties.
