Browns GM on Johnny Manziel: 'He's doing everything he's been asked to do'

Johnny Manziel's disastrous rookie campaign is being treated as ancient history around the Cleveland Browns' facility.

Manziel was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft but put together a miserable first professional season, throwing for zero touchdowns and two interceptions in five games.

At the end of the season, Manziel entered rehab and rejoined the club after a two-month stint.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer believes Manziel is well suited to take the reigns once again, this time with more felicitous results.

"Johnny's been good since he's been around the Browns family," Farmer said on NFL Network. "I commend the young man for taking the necessary steps that he felt were needed to take. That being said, since he's been back here, he's been good. He's doing everything he's been asked to do. He seems dialed in and focused and that's what it's about, making football his first priority for us on this end, but, again, inevitably, we're really focused on making sure the young man has his life together."

Earlier in the week, Browns head coach Mike Pettine indicated that Josh McCown is the favorite to win the team's starting quarterback job. However, with Manziel seemingly putting a myriad of off-the-field distractions behind him, the former Heisman Trophy possesses a chance to seize the role permanently.
