Johnson, Lightning rally for OT victory to even series with Red Wings

Rick Osentoski / USA Today

The Tampa Bay Lightning will return home with a 2-2 tie in their first-round series against the Detroit Red Wings after Tyler Johnson orchestrated a late rally in Thursday's 3-2 overtime victory in Game 4.

Gustav Nyquist and Joakim Andersson scored in the second period for the Red Wings, who squandered an opportunity to take a commanding 3-1 lead on home ice.

Star Performer: Johnson finished with two goals and an assist, scoring Tampa Bay's first goal since Game 2 and setting up Ondrej Palat for the tying goal, before scoring the winner 2:25 into overtime. He leads the Lightning with four playoff goals.

Turning Point: The Red Wings appeared to be in control through two periods, but Johnson's and Palat's goals came 77 seconds apart in the third to wrest momentum away from the home team.

Goalie Comparison: Petr Mrazek was on his way to a second consecutive shutout before allowing three goals on the final five shots he faced. Ben Bishop accidentally scored on himself in the second period but was good enough to earn the victory.

Goalie Shots GA Saves SV%
Bishop 24 2 22 .917
Mrazek 29 3 26 .897

Top Highlight: Johnson fired home a cross-slot feed from Victor Hedman to complete the comeback in overtime while Mrazek watched helplessly from the far side of the net.

Stat of the Night: Mrazek's shutout streak lasted 115 minutes and 12 seconds before Johnson scored his first of two goals.
