Blue Jays' Travis day-to-day with rib contusion as X-rays confirm no break

Nick Turchiaro / USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays' middle infield has taken another hit.

Already without shortstop Jose Reyes as he deals with an oblique injury, the team lost second baseman Devon Travis, who left Sunday's game in the first inning with a left rib contusion.

Travis was hit in the left side by a pitch from Atlanta Braves right-hander Shelby Miller but remained in the game. While sliding back to first base on an attempted pick off shortly after, Travis appeared to be in pain and was replaced by Steve Tolleson.

X-rays on his rib returned negative and the team has listed him as day-to-day.

The 24-year-old is off to an exceptional start in his rookie season, hitting .356/.396/.644 with three home runs and a team-leading 12 RBIs.
