Orioles' Schoop to be placed on DL with knee tear
Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop is headed to the 15-day disabled list after getting diagnosed with a Grade 1 PCL tear in his right knee. He also suffered an MCL sprain, but the team is optimistic he didn't damage his ACL.
The 23-year-old, who will rehab at the team's minor league complex in Sarasota, Fla., will avoid surgery for now. While there's no timetable for his return, Schoop is confident he'll play again this season.
"It's really disappointing, you want to be there for the team, for myself," he said. "So far, I was having really good at-bats."
Jimmy Paredes will replace him on the active roster.
Schoop injured his knee during Friday's loss to the Boston Red Sox when he tripped over first base. Ryan Flaherty will start in his place at second base Saturday.
Schoop was off to a hot start, hitting .259/.310/.630 with three homers in nine games.
