Senators assistant coach Mark Reeds dies

Mark Reeds - a former NHL player and current assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators - has passed away at the age of 55, reports Bayshore News.

Reeds was hospitalized with pneumonia and passed away early Tuesday morning.

He was named a Senators assistant in June of 2011, having previously coached the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL. He compiled a record of 46-17-5 in his last season with the Attack, winning the OHL championship.

The former fifth-round pick of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft played 365 games in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues and Hartford Whalers.

The coach had been battling cancer and was recently diagnosed with inoperable cancer.
