Hawks sign Austin Daye to 10-day contract

The Atlanta Hawks are still on the hunt for a suitable 15th man to fill out the end of their bench.

The Hawks signed Jarell Eddie to a 10-day contract out of the D-League on March 5, but did not offer him another deal when it expired Saturday.

Instead, they've given a 10-day deal to forward Austin Daye.

Daye, a first-round draft pick of the Detroit Pistons in 2009, played 26 games for the San Antonio Spurs this season before being waived. He's since been plying his trade for the D-League's Erie BayHawks, averaging 16 points and seven rebounds in 10 games.

The Hawks are looking for some additional frontcourt insurance now that reserve forward Mike Scott is out four-to-six weeks due to a broken big toe.

In parts of six NBA seasons between the Spurs, Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors, Daye has averaged 5.2 points and 2.6 rebounds, while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from deep.
