Report: Heat among teams still interested in JaVale McGee

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

JaVale McGee remains on the open market days after a deal with the Boston Celtics fell through. And there appears to be no shortage of interested suitors for his services.

McGee, who seemed destined to be headed to the playoff-hopeful Celtics after reaching a buyout agreement with the Philadelphia 76ers, has a number of contenders reportedly vying to bring him on board for the stretch run.

The Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors are among the teams who remain interested in signing the 7-foot center, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports

Both Miami and Houston could use frontcourt depth, as each team is without one of its star players. Chris Bosh is out for the season, while Dwight Howard hasn't played since late January.

Toronto and Dallas, like most teams, could use another low-post presence to slide into its rotation and, with the trade deadline and playoff eligibility waiver deadline having passed, McGee is the best available big on the market. Spears notes that a potential obstacle facing Dallas is how much playing time the team could offer McGee behind starting center Tyson Chandler.

Injuries have limited McGee to 23 games this season. He's averaged sparse minutes when he's played, but he's a shot-blocking big capable of protecting the rim which should be appealing to many teams.
