Rich Peverley skates with AHL's Texas Stars as volunteer coach

Rich Peverley is back on the ice, serving as a welcome sight within the Dallas Stars organization and the hockey world at large.

Peverley skated with the team's AHL affiliate Wednesday as a volunteer coach, helping with faceoff drills and working on shooting drills with 2014 first-round pick Julius Honka.

Peverley collapsed on the Stars' bench almost a year ago during a game against the Columbus and underwent offseason heart surgery to rectify the issue.

"It’s an asset that we have within the organization right now with his (medical) issue. So we get to use his skills a bit," Texas Stars coach Derek Laxdal told Sean Shapiro of Wrong Side of the Red Line

"He’s a centerman by trade and he’s worked with a couple of the young centerman. It’s good to see an NHL guy working with a couple of the young kids, because they have aspirations of playing at that level. So it’s great to see him willing to come down here and work with them."

Peverley has been a presence around the AHL club this season, but had yet to take to the ice with the minor-leaguers.

There remains no timetable for his potential return to the NHL lineup.
