Denver Broncos linebackers coach Richard Smith is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons' coaching staff as defensive coordinator, NFL Media's Albert Breer reports.
Smith will oversee the Falcons' run defense, while Raheem Morris - who has verbally accepted the job of assistant head coach - will look after the pass defense, according to Breer.
Smith joined the Broncos in 2011 after spending the previous two seasons as the Carolina Panthers' linebackers coach. Before that, he served as defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins (2005) and Houston Texans (2006-08).
Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who is the rumored favorite to land the Falcons' head-coaching job, was Smith's defensive line coach in Miami.
