Knicks waive all 3 players acquired in trade; Thomas may return

Mark D. Smith / USA Today Sports

That the New York Knicks did not have present competitiveness in mind when they got involved in a three-team trade and dealt guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert is no secret

Perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that they have waived all three players – Lou Amundson, Alex Kirk and Lance Thomas – that they acquired in the deal.

Amundson and Kirk were expected to be waived from the start, but it wasn't clear what they planned to do with Thomas. But Thomas has indeed been waived along with his fellow trade imports. According to the New York Post's Marc Berman, however, there is a chance they'll bring him back.

With Shumpert and Smith gone, the Knicks opened up two roster spots by waiving the incoming players, though they've filled one for the time being by signing D-Leaguer Langston Galloway to a 10-day contract.
