Royals become 1st team in MLB history to win 4 extra-inning games in a single postseason
The Kansas City Royals finally made it back to the postseason in 2014, and they're setting records in the process.
With their 8-6 extra-innings win in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series over the Baltimore Orioles, the Royals became the first team in Major League Baseball history to win four extra-inning games in a single postseason.
Making the feat more remarkable: the Royals have played only five postseason games, winning them all. That's right: Kansas City is undefeated in October, as their magical run rolls on.
It's how the Royals are winning games that makes their run all the more, well, magical:
There's more: the Royals have hit seven home runs in five postseason games, after hitting seven over their final 23 regular-season games.
And more: Kansas City's four extra-inning wins in five games in October are one shy of the five extra-inning wins they recorded in the 162-game regular season.
Almost done: the Royals have scored eight runs in three of their five postseason games, after scoring eight or more runs only twice after the All-Star break.
And, finally:
You can't make this stuff up. Enjoy the ride, Kansas City.
