Report: Northwestern, Chris Collins agree to contract extension

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Collins was able to accomplish what no other head coach could before last season at Northwestern, and the school is showing its gratitude.

The school has reportedly agreed to a "lengthy" contract extension with Collins on Monday after the 43-year-old led Northwestern to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, citing a source.

In his fourth year manning the sidelines for the Wildcats, Collins won more games than he ever had a college coach, with the final one being a first-round victory over Vanderbilt.

The Wildcats were the feel good story of the early stages of the NCAA Tournament, garnering more national attention than ever before in the history of the program. Collins will look to continue his streak of improving Northwestern's win total in each season he has run the program.
