Poll: Was Machado's slide vs. Red Sox dirty?
Evan Habeeb / Reuters
In Friday's divisional tilt and series opener between the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles, yet another questionable slide occurred courtesy of Manny Machado, who dug his spikes into Dustin Pedroia's leg.
The incident sparked an ejection from Red Sox third base coach Brian Butterfield, while manager John Farrell said the slide was late and should have been deemed illegal by the umpires.
From Baltimore's side, Machado - who has never been involved in a controversial sliding incident - said the play was not intentional and that he reached out to Pedroia afterward. Orioles manager Buck Showalter, meanwhile, downplayed the incident and asked why the slide should be considered illegal.
You be the judge.
