49ers trade up to select quarterback C.J. Beathard
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports
The San Francisco 49ers traded up to select quarterback C.J. Beathard out of Iowa in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Beathard played in a pro-style offense at Iowa, which could ease his acclimation to the professional ranks.
The 23-year-old lacks professional arm strength, however, and it's unlikely he'll displace Brian Hoyer or Matt Barkley for playing time next season.
