Bengals' Lewis doesn't expect contract extension before season

It looks like Marvin Lewis' streak of short-term extensions is coming to an end.

The Cincinnati Bengals head coach had agreed to one-year contract extensions in each of the past two offseasons, and was on a two-year continuation of his deal before that.

However, after 14 years in Cincinnati without a playoff win, Lewis expects to enter the 2017 season without another new contract.

"I don't anticipate anything happening," Lewis told ESPN's Katherine Terrell on Thursday.

Lewis had said in January he and the team would "like to agree to something at some point" regarding his expiring contract, saying it would ease the minds of his staff.

Despite coming off his worst record since 2010 without contract security, Lewis says he isn't bothered by the lack of progress.

"It's not really a subject that's on my mind," Lewis said. "I don't think it's on (owner) Mike (Brown)'s mind, either. I've gone into many seasons without a new contract. It's not a focus for me."
