Schneiderlin among quartet of Everton absentees for Merseyside derby
Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin's race for fitness ahead of Saturday's Merseyside derby has come up short, and the French international will miss out with a calf concern.
Schneiderlin joins James McCarthy, Ramiro Funes Mori, and Seamus Coleman on the Toffees treatment table, the club confirmed Friday with a statement on its website.
"Morgan is getting better now," Everton manager Ronald Koeman told evertontv. "He is still not available for the weekend and I don't think he will be available for the game against Manchester United on Tuesday, but we have good hope that he will be available for the Leicester game."
Schneiderlin, 27, picked up the injury in the 4-0 drubbing of Hull City on the other side of the international break, though compared to some of his Everton mates, the Alsace-born defensive mid's injury is a minor concern.
Funes Mori is likely to miss the remainder of the campaign pending a second opinion on the knee injury he picked up with Argentina on international duty.

"Funes is not good," Koeman added. "They checked him on Wednesday and we will have a second opinion on Monday - but we expect him to have surgery on the meniscus in his knee. That means that it would be the end of the season for him."
Coleman's prognosis is even gloomier. The Republic of Ireland right-back's fibula and tibia were shattered by a Neil Taylor horror tackle in a drab 0-0 draw with Wales, which at times more closely resembled a rugby match than a World Cup qualifier.
"Of course, if you get a long-term injury like Seamus had, it is a shock," the Dutch gaffer continued. "What happened shocked everybody. I spoke to him after his surgery last Saturday and he was down, but that is normal.
"We will give him all the maximum support to recover from that bad injury."
McCarthy, who's been on the fringe of Koeman's first-team squad for the entire campaign, will miss the local derby with a hamstring injury.
If it's any consolation for Everton ahead of the Anfield visit, Liverpool has its own problem with injuries, with Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge, and Jordan Henderson certain to miss out.
