Everton expects to be without Ramiro Funes Mori for the final months of the season after he picked up a knee injury during the international break with Argentina, the Premier League side confirmed Thursday.

The defender tore his meniscus during a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia on Tuesday and will meet with a medical professional next week.

The initial diagnosis means the 26-year-old will likely be out until at least the summer, the club admitted.

Funes Mori, who's made 63 appearances for Everton since joining from River Plate in 2015, suffered the injury 36 minutes into the contest and was forced to leave on a stretcher.

The centre-back was the second Everton defender to suffer a season-ending injury during the international break. Seamus Coleman is expected to miss several months after breaking his leg during the Republic of Ireland's goalless draw with Wales last week.

Meanwhile, midfielder James McCarthy is questionable heading into the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Saturday after aggravating a hamstring injury in the buildup to the Republic of Ireland's match last Friday.
