Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in discussions with Manchester United over a longer deal, potentially scuppering LA Galaxy's rumoured approach and ending Napoli's reported interest in the effervescent Swede.

The 35-year-old's contract expires this summer, but there is now hope that he'll exercise the option to extend his stay or will ink even longer terms. Ibrahimovic's apparent preference is an agreement until 2019.

"Let's see what happens, we are talking," he told the Manchester Evening News' Dianne Bourne. "I have an option for another year, I want to do great as long as I'm here, so let us see, there is a lot of time."

Ibrahimovic has been an instant hit in Stretford through his 15 goals and four assists in Premier League play, and could reportedly be joined in attack by Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann in what many anticipate will be a heavy recruitment drive at the end of the season.

The expenditure is expected to address what's been a promising though ultimately disappointing season under Jose Mourinho. United is unbeaten in the league since October, and is the favourite to win the Europa League, but the vast sums splurged on Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have only merited a fifth-placed domestic standing with 11 matches remaining.

Ibrahimovic joined for nothing following the expiration of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, but takes home a pay packet believed to be around £220,000 a week.

"I enjoy. I'm a person when I go into something I put my head 200 percent, and I do what I'm good at. I go in, I go for the kill and I go out," Ibrahimovic continued.

"And when I go out there is no complaints, that's what I do. I never leave a job unfinished. I always go in, do my job, and in the way that is a fair play, a fair deal, that is what I do."

Ibrahimovic retired from international football last year, meaning he's had two weeks of training and recuperation at United before Saturday's visit from West Bromwich Albion.
