Calvillo headlines storied HOF class

Former Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo was one of four legends named to the CFL's Hall of Fame class of 2017 on Wednesday.

Calvillo will be enshrined alongside former BC Lions receiver Geroy Simon, former Toronto Argonauts linebacker Mike O'Shea, and former Calgary Stampeders running back Kelvin Anderson.

Calvillo headlines the class after a sensational career that saw him become professional football's all-time leading passer with 79,816 yards. The Utah State alum won the league's Most Outstanding Player award three times, and he led the Als to three Grey Cup championships in 16 seasons.

Simon enjoyed a similarly illustrious career, claiming one Most Outstanding Player award and three Grey Cup titles. He recorded nine consecutive seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards while starring with the Lions.

O'Shea, now the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, became the CFL's first Canadian to record 1,000 career tackles. The three-time East All-Star helped the Argos capture three Grey Cups as well.

Anderson ranks first on the CFL's all-time list in consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons with eight. He led the West Division in rushing on four separate occasions, solidifying himself as one of the top running backs of the 1990s.
