Jets, Josh McCown agree to 1-year deal

Another year, another veteran starter for the New York Jets.

The Jets have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent quarterback Josh McCown, the team announced Monday.

The contract will pay McCown $6 million next season, fully guaranteed, according to MMQB's Albert Breer.

The Jets also included an additional $7 million in optimistic potential bonuses, including $125,000 per game he plays at least 50 percent of the snaps, $2 million if he makes the playoffs, $1.5 million to make the Super Bowl, and another $1.5 million to win it, adds Breer.

McCown will likely be the favorite to win the Jets' starting quarterback spot over Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. The 14-year pro joins former quarterback coach Jeremy Bates, who he worked with as a member of the Chicago Bears in 2012.

The 37-year-old started three games for the Cleveland Browns last season, throwing for 1,100 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions.

The Jets will be McCown's 10th career team.
