Washington loses Jontay Porter's commitment after Romar firing

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

The fallout from Washington's decision to fire Lorenzo Romar has begun, as four-star 2018 commit Jontay Porter announced he's reopening his recruitment.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pounder is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Washington and the 26th overall prospect on the ESPN 60. He had been committed to the Huskies since early 2015.

Losing Porter certainly hurts the Huskies, but it's the next move that could be even worse, as his older brother, Michael Jr., is the No. 1 prospect in the country for the class of 2017. The elder Porter signed with Washington in July of last year, but rumors have swirled that he'll ask for a release after the school fired Romar earlier in the week.

One potential destination for Jontay Porter, as well as Michael, is Missouri which just hired Cuonzo Martin as head coach this week. It's rumored that Martin's first order of business is to bring the Porters' father, Michael Sr., on as an assistant coach, certainly strengthening the chances they sign with the Tigers.
