Report: Warriors fear Durant done for regular season, maybe longer

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors are concerned that Kevin Durant might not play again in the regular season due to the left knee injury he suffered Tuesday in Washington, sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Some in Durant's inner circle fear the damage could sideline him even longer, Wojnarowski reports.

The Warriors and the NBA world are awaiting results on an MRI performed Tuesday night at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Whatever the prognosis, the Warriors will reportedly sign forward Matt Barnes rather than guard Jose Calderon. Barnes appeared to confirm the news late Tuesday. That roster move more than likely indicates the expectation of an extended absence for Durant.

A major Durant injury would have a massive impact throughout the NBA, with the league's best team losing its top scorer and rebounder. The Warriors have altered their game somewhat from the last two seasons in order to accommodate Durant, with Stephen Curry arguably feeling the biggest effect.

Durant missed 55 games for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2014-15 due to a serious right foot injury.
