Former Duke starting QB Thomas Sirk to transfer

Former Duke starting quarterback Thomas Sirk will play his final season of eligibility at a new program, the school announced Monday.

As a starter in 2015, Sirk threw for 2,625 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while also rushing for 803 yards and eight touchdowns to guide the Blue Devils to an 8-5 record and a bowl win over Indiana.

But Sirk, 23, suffered three torn Achilles tendons at Duke, missing both the 2013 and 2016 seasons as a result.

“I am beyond thankful for my time spent at Duke University,” Sirk said. “I will never take for granted the relationships I’ve built with the entire Duke community, especially my teammates and coaches. The men in the locker room have become my family over the course of five years, and calling them teammates would be an understatement."

The Florida native finishes his Duke career with 2,692 yards passing and 19 touchdowns, with an additional 1,041 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground.

Sirk is barred from transferring to another ACC school, Army, Baylor, N.C. Central, and Northwestern.
