Report: Indians intrigued by free agent Chase Utley

Cleveland Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti may not have believed the club could have afforded Edwin Encarnacion and Boone Logan during what has turned out to be an impressive offseason, but he was wrong.

And now, the executive and his front office may be ready to add one more seasoned veteran to their roster ahead of spring training.

The Indians are intrigued by free-agent second baseman Chase Utley, according to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports, who reports the 38-year-old isn't a perfect fit with two-time All-Star Jason Kipnis entrenched at second base and is under contract until 2020.

Utley remains on the free-agent market after spending the past season-and-a-half with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He appeared in 138 games for the Dodgers - who were reportedly open to bringing back the veteran - last season, and is apparently expected to pick from a selection of multiple offers in the near future.

Utley hit .252/.319/.396 for L.A. in 2016, which included 14 home runs and 52 RBIs.

Over the course of his career, the former Philadelphia Phillies great, and six-time All-Star, owns a .278/.361/.472 slash line with 250 home runs and 977 RBIs.
