Ex-coach Kill: I won't step on Minnesota's campus again

Consider former Minnesota coach Jerry Kill among those upset with the school's decision to fire Tracy Claeys on Tuesday.

Kill, who is now a Rutgers assistant, stepped down as the frontman of the Golden Gophers due to health concerns after four years on the job. The school replaced him with his longtime assistant Claeys shortly afterwards.

Minnesota fired Claeys after he publicly supported his team boycotting their bowl game due to an ongoing sexual assault investigation that saw several players suspended.

"If I'm at Rutgers still, whatever, but I won't be stepping back in that stadium, and I won't be stepping back at the university," Kill told ESPN 1500, as per Chris Vannini of Coaching Search. "My wife and I, we will not. We gave our best to the state of Minnesota. We'll always come to Minnesota. My daughter's there. We love Minnesota, and I'll go to every baseball game, pro football game, anything else, but I will not ever be in that stadium or that complex - they're building a new one, we had a lot to do with that. I won't ever see it. I wish them all the luck in the world."

Following Claeys dismissal, athletic director Mark Coyle released a statement regarding the culture and social aspects of the program, to which Kill didn't take kindly.

"(Claeys) says to me, 'Hey if they fire me, they don't want me to be there, don't think I ran the program good enough and can get somebody better, that's OK. That's their prerogative,'" Kill said. "But when you go publicly at a news conference and talk about the class of people and integrity of people, that kind of stuff, (that's different)."
