Report: Texas' Herman hires Ohio State's Tim Beck as OC

Tom Herman's successor at Ohio State will be his offensive coordinator at Texas, as Tim Beck is leaving the Buckeyes to join Herman's staff with the Longhorns, sources told Chip Brown of Horns Digest.

Beck took over as co-offensive coordinator when Herman left for Houston following the 2014 season. He had spent the previous five seasons on the coaching staff at Nebraska.

The 50-year-old was never able to duplicate Herman's success with the Ohio State offense, a unit that was third in the nation in scoring in Herman's final season with the program. That ranking dropped to 40th in Beck's first season with the Buckeyes, before rising to 33rd this past season.

Ohio State's passing game struggled mightily down the stretch this season, with those issues coming to a head in a terrible performance against Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. Despite having over three weeks to prepare for the contest, the Buckeyes were unable to score a point, with quarterback J.T. Barrett throwing for just 127 yards in the loss.

When asked following the game if he would be back with Ohio State next season, Beck said, "I don't know, that's coach (Urban) Meyer's decision."

It appears Beck has taken that decision out of Meyer's hands and decided to move to Texas on his own.
